An Invitation to See and Be Seen: We See You Performance on March 30th

The We See You Learning Institute, hosted by Centro De Amigos
March 30, 2023 from 12:30 to 3:00
at the Garner Art Center in Haverstraw, NY.
22 Railroad Avenue, Garnerville, NY 10923, Building 35

The people of Centro de Amigos have something to reveal to the Haverstraw community and to the New York State Department of Health service system about the nature and quality of good person-centered work. Centro de Amigos has created a “We See You” campaign to convey the collective potential to see all people, particularly elders, as whole people with dignity, gifts, contributions, and wisdom.

The “We See You” Learning Institute on March 30th, 2023, gathers 100 people to imagine better ways to strengthen local communities and to transform services for elders and their families, particularly in Haverstraw, a primarily Latino community. Every aspect of the event will be translated in English and Spanish.

With the guidance of social change artist, Arawana Hayashi, Senior Leader of the global Presencing Institute, we are offering a Social Presencing Theater Performance to tell and build a better story about person-centered work.

Following the performance, the actors will join Learning Institute attendees to host small group conversations to generate more ways to strengthen “We See You” collective action. We conclude the afternoon with an artful large group presentation of fresh ideas and possibilities.

This performance has been co-created with the staff and allies of Centro de Amigos with the support of Beth Mount and John O’Brien, Learning Institute faculty. We are honored by the participation of Madeline Kennedy, the lead Community Rule consultant in the Department of Health who is one of the actors in the performance.

The “We See You” Learning Institute is supported by a partnership between Centro de Amigos, the Learning Institute for Person-Centered Planning, sponsored by the New York Alliance for Inclusion and Innovation for the New York Department of Health Person-Centered Planning Statewide Training Initiative in collaboration with the Presencing Institute.

Arawana Hayashi is a global leader of organizational and personal change. She heads the creation of Social Presencing Theater (SPT) for the Presencing Institute. Working with Otto Scharmer and colleagues, she brings her background in the arts, meditation, and social justice to creating “social presencing” that makes visible both current reality and emerging future possibilities for individuals and groups.
